A Los Angeles homeowner fired shots at a suspected burglar who broke into a residence early Tuesday morning, striking a 16-year-old suspect multiple times, according to police.
Officers responded around 4 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a home in the 11600 block of Laurel Crest Drive in Studio City, KNBC-TV reported, citing the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the homeowner confronted two burglary suspects inside or near the residence and fired at one of them. Authorities later identified the wounded suspect as a 16-year-old male.
The suspects fled the scene in a black Chevy Traverse, police said. A short time later, the driver of a vehicle matching that description dropped the injured teen off at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to KNBC.
The suspect was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon and listed in stable condition. No residents inside the home were injured.
It remains unclear whether any property was stolen during the attempted burglary. Video from the scene showed shattered glass at the home’s back door, indicating forced entry.
The second suspect remains at large. Police said no physical descriptions of either suspect have been released.
The incident highlights growing concerns among homeowners as violent and property crimes continue to plague parts of California, where residents increasingly find themselves forced to defend their homes in the absence of effective deterrence.
