The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a fire at 5:28 p.m. Tuesday in the attic of the Magic Castle, the private club and performance venue in the Hollywood Hills. The three-story Victorian building on West Franklin Avenue houses the Academy of Magical Arts and hosts magic shows and private events.

Firefighters went into offensive mode, coordinating roof ventilation, suppression, and salvage operations on the third floor. A total of 68 personnel responded, and the fire was knocked down in 41 minutes. Paramedics evaluated several people at the scene, but no injuries were reported.

LAFD indicated that ongoing roof work may have caused the blaze. Crews remained at the property into the evening to perform salvage, smoke removal, and overhaul operations.

This is not the first time the Magic Castle has experienced an attic fire. In October 2011, a similar fire caused damage but resulted in no injuries. The club subsequently closed for repairs before reopening.
