Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo produced the second-highest scoring performance in NBA history Tuesday night, dropping 83 points in a 150-129 rout of the Washington Wizards at Kaseya Center.

Adebayo finished with 20-of-43 field goals, including 7-of-22 from three-point range, and a record-setting 36-of-43 free throws. He added nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks over 42 minutes. The outburst shattered his previous career high of 41 points and doubled his season average of 18.9 points per game.

The performance passed Kobe Bryant's 81 points from 2006 for second all-time behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100 in 1962. Adebayo also set NBA records for free throws made and attempted in a game, surpassing marks held by Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. For the Heat, he established franchise records for points in a game (previous: LeBron James' 61), half (43 in first half), quarter (31 in first) and field-goal attempts.

Adebayo erupted for 31 points in the opening quarter on 10-for-16 shooting, including five threes. He reached 43 by halftime before adding 19 in the third to hit 62 after three quarters, matching Bryant's output through three in his 81-point game. In the fourth, he scored 21 points, tying Bryant at 81 with 1:37 left before two free throws at 1:16 pushed him to 83. The Heat removed him shortly after.

The Heat improved to 37-29, their sixth straight win and best mark eight games over .500, despite missing Norman Powell, Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic and Andrew Wiggins. Wizards center Alex Sarr led Washington with 28 points in their ninth consecutive loss, dropping them to 16-48.

Postgame, Adebayo said, "I don’t even know how to put this night into words, man... I feel lightheaded." Heat coach Erik Spoelstra called it "an absolutely surreal night." Wizards coach Brian Keefe questioned late fouls, noting 16 fourth-quarter free-throw attempts for Adebayo, while saying his team allowed him to get hot. Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers reacted with disbelief: "Is it true a human being had 83 points tonight?"

Adebayo's feat marked the first 60-point game of the season and made him the 11th player ever with 70 or more in a game. It also set a fantasy basketball high-score record at 110 points.
