Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, pledging that Israel would not cease its struggle against Iran's regime until victory is achieved. Speaking amid the first week of Operation Roaring Lion, a joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign, Netanyahu emphasized unwavering determination in the face of existential threats.
'We will not cease to struggle against the tyrants in Iran. We will strike them without mercy,' Netanyahu said in the televised address. 'Operation Roaring Lion will continue with uncompromising momentum.' He credited Israel's citizens for their resolve, noting they urged leaders to 'continue until the end, until victory.'
The operation follows earlier strikes dubbed Operation Rising Lion and targets Iran's nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile capabilities, and leadership. Netanyahu announced the elimination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, dozens of Revolutionary Guard commanders, and the destruction of key military sites. He described achieving near-total air superiority over Iran alongside U.S. forces.
Netanyahu framed the conflict as part of a broader regional transformation since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Israel has dismantled leadership in Gaza and Lebanon, toppled Syria's regime, and secured hostages, he said. The Iran campaign aims to prevent nuclear armament and foster regime change, allowing the Iranian people to 'take their destiny into their own hands.'
'The moment of truth is approaching,' he told Iranians directly. 'We seek to liberate Iran and live in peace with it.' Netanyahu highlighted solidarity between Israeli and pre-1979 Iranian flags in exile communities, signaling hope for renewed friendship.
The prime minister thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for support, recalling Trump's early warnings on Iran's nuclear program. Strikes have degraded Iran's capabilities daily, with more targets and 'surprises' planned to destabilize the regime.
Netanyahu warned Revolutionary Guard members: 'You too are in the crosshairs. Whoever lays down his weapon, no harm will come to him.' He also pressed Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah, Iran's proxy, or face consequences.
As of March 12, the war entered its second week with continued airstrikes. Iran has launched missiles at Israel and its neighbors, prompting Netanyahu to decry international inaction on Tehran's atrocities. Israel positions itself as a 'beacon of strength' amid UN hypocrisy, he added.
'Together we will roar like a lion, and with G-d’s help, together we will ensure the eternity of Israel,' Netanyahu concluded, invoking biblical imagery.
The campaign has drawn global attention, with Netanyahu's 40-year focus on Iran's threat culminating in these actions. Earlier speeches and operations underscore his long-held view of the ayatollahs as Israel's paramount danger.
