Budget airline Breeze Airways, which markets itself as “Seriously Nice,” announced an expansion of its low-cost travel network across the United States.
The airline added new routes from cities including Raleigh-Durham, Hartford, Columbus, Atlantic City, Charleston, Memphis, Louisville, Los Angeles, Madison, Pittsburgh, and Greenville-Spartanburg. In Florida, it added service to Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Orlando, and will return flights to San Antonio after a four-year hiatus. Internationally, Nassau, Bahamas, became Breeze’s fourth overseas destination, joining Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
“Breeze’s convenient, direct service to underserved destinations continues to resonate with travelers, and we’re eager to introduce Brownsville and Atlantic City to our unique, elevated product offering,” CEO David Neeleman said. “We’re preparing to kick off an exciting season of summer travel.”
The new Brownsville-Orlando route, Breeze’s 84th destination, will start May 15 with nonstop flights on Mondays and Fridays. Tickets were initially offered starting at $79 one-way as part of a short-term promotional fare. Local officials in Brownsville expressed excitement over the addition of the route.
Breeze Airways began operations in May 2021 with a fleet of Airbus A220-300 and Embraer 190 aircraft. Its expansion strategy focuses on underserved markets, providing direct service at low base fares.
Travel experts caution consumers to remain vigilant about “unbundling,” where airlines advertise low fares but charge additional fees for checked baggage, seat selection, and early boarding. Nerd Wallet noted that these ancillary costs can offset advertised discounts, and warned that reduced competition on some routes could give airlines more leverage to raise fees.
Despite the warnings, domestic airfare trends remain favorable for travelers. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported an average domestic round-trip price of $397 in the first quarter of 2025, down roughly 1.2% from the previous quarter. TSA data shows that nearly 66 million passengers passed through airport checkpoints in January alone.
Breeze Airways’ latest expansion reflects both the airline’s focus on affordability and its strategy to tap into growing summer travel demand, while consumers are reminded to monitor total costs beyond base ticket prices.
