Brian Cox is once again drawing attention for a sweeping, profanity-laced rant, aiming at fellow actors, filmmakers, and President Donald Trump in a wide-ranging interview.
The Succession star has built a reputation for blunt, often harsh critiques. Still, his latest remarks escalate that pattern, with Cox openly declaring he no longer intends to filter his opinions.
In the interview, Cox dismissed multiple high-profile actors and performances. He criticized Gary Oldman’s Oscar-winning portrayal of Winston Churchill as “nonsense,” and described Johnny Depp as “overblown” and “overrated.” He also aimed Ian McKellen, saying his work in The Lord of the Rings was “not to my taste.”
The criticisms did not stop there. Cox labeled Edward Norton “a pain,” called Kevin Spacey a “stupid, stupid man,” and argued that Quentin Tarantino restricts actors’ creative expression. He also suggested Margot Robbie was “too beautiful” for certain dramatic roles.
Turning to politics, Cox sharply criticized President Trump, accusing him of acting out of greed and dismissing his foreign policy motivations. His remarks included repeated profanity, which he used to emphasize his frustration and disdain.
Cox acknowledged that his outspoken approach has raised concerns among those close to him, including his wife, who has urged him to be more cautious. However, he made clear he has no intention of changing course.
“I don’t want to be careful anymore,” he said, adding with explicit language that he plans to say what he wants as he approaches 80.
The actor’s latest comments are part of a broader pattern. In recent years, he has attacked institutions like the Academy Awards, dismissed large segments of Hollywood, and made controversial remarks about religion and American politics.
His continued willingness to criticize nearly every corner of the entertainment industry, and beyond, has cemented his reputation as one of the most outspoken and combative figures in film today.
