California Attorney General Rob Bonta canceled a meeting scheduled for Monday with representatives of Paramount Skydance that was intended to begin settlement discussions over the state’s lawsuit seeking to block Paramount’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Bonta’s office said Paramount leaked the alleged substance of settlement talks held Friday and misrepresented those discussions, demonstrating a lack of good faith. The New York Times reported Saturday that the earlier talks had been preliminary and offered no assurance they would produce meaningful progress toward a settlement.

Neither Paramount nor the California Attorney General’s office immediately responded to requests for comment.

Last month California joined 11 other states in suing to block the $110 billion deal. The states, including New York, Arizona, and Minnesota, alleged the acquisition would reduce competition in film distribution and cable television, harm movie theaters and pay-TV distributors, raise prices for consumers, and reduce wage competition for workers.
