Commentator Candace Owens ignited widespread backlash on Wednesday by directly accusing Israel of orchestrating the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Her comments came in a post replying to a video clip of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussing recent joint U.S.-Israel airstrikes against Iran. Owens wrote, "You murdered 3,000 Americans on 9/11. For starters." The post appeared early Wednesday morning, hours after similar claims she made on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Owens shared a clip from Tucker Carlson that promoted an anti-Israel conspiracy theory. She added, "From 9/11 to the Lavon Affair and many in between, false flags are the Israeli way. Mossad agents are taught that they will inherit the earth ‘by way of deception’. Bibi wants a third world war so they can hit a global reset as they have done every time people start noticing." The Lavon Affair refers to a 1954 Israeli operation in Egypt that involved false-flag tactics, though its connection to 9/11 remains a baseless conspiracy theory.

The Anti-Defamation League has tracked Owens' promotion of antisemitic tropes, including past suggestions that Israel had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks. In an August 2024 broadcast, she referenced Israeli involvement in U.S. events and the USS Liberty incident during the 1967 Six-Day War.

Owens, who hosts a popular podcast, left The Daily Wire in March 2024 amid disputes over her comments on Israel. Her recent posts coincide with heightened U.S.-Israel military actions against Iran, including airstrikes reported this week.

A 2025 study by the Jewish People Policy Institute noted a spike in anti-Israel rhetoric from right-wing podcasters like Owens and Carlson. The ADL reported surging antisemitic tropes online amid the Iran strikes.

Owens has not responded to the latest criticism as of Wednesday afternoon.
