The Chicago Sky traded forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream on Monday after a disappointing 2025 season that saw the team finish with a 10-34 record, tied for the worst in the league.
In the deal, Atlanta received Reese along with a 2028 second-round draft pick swap, while Chicago acquired the Dream’s 2027 and 2028 first-round picks, according to reports.
Reese, 23, now heads to Atlanta, where she is expected to play alongside veteran star Brittney Griner, forming a high-profile frontcourt pairing for the Dream.
Reese has been a polarizing figure, drawing attention for her on-court rivalry with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and criticism over her physical style of play. She has also faced accusations from critics of stat-padding through missed shots and rebounds.
Griner, 35, has also remained in the spotlight. She was detained in Russia in 2022 for possessing cannabis oil and later released in a high-profile prisoner exchange involving Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. In 2024, she accused some fans of directing racial slurs at players, claims that were met with skepticism in some circles.
Reese acknowledged the move in a post on X, writing, “An Angel’s DREAM ATL WHAT UP?!” alongside images of herself in an Atlanta uniform.
She later said she is “beyond grateful” for the opportunity and is focused on continuing to develop her game, compete at a high level, and connect with fans in Atlanta.
The trade marks a new chapter for Reese and a significant shift for both franchises as they look ahead to the next WNBA season.
