President Trump has formally endorsed Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL), giving the Alabama congressman a major boost as Republicans compete to replace Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor. Moore currently represents Alabama’s 1st Congressional District and has been one of Trump’s longtime allies, having endorsed him early in the 2016 campaign and consistently supported his agenda in Congress.
Moore is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and has built his profile as a staunch conservative, emphasizing border security, fiscal restraint, and opposition to the Biden administration. Trump’s endorsement is expected to significantly strengthen Moore’s standing in the primary, particularly in a field with several well-funded and well-known contenders.
Moore’s opponents include Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, former Jefferson County sheriff nominee and tactical training business owner Jared Hudson, Morgan Murphy, a former national security advisor to Sen. Tuberville, and Rodney Walker, a wholesale fuel company executive. While the race was previously expected to head to a runoff, Trump’s backing could allow Moore to consolidate conservative voters and secure an outright primary victory.
The seat is considered safely Republican in the general election, meaning the GOP primary is effectively the decisive contest. With Trump’s endorsement now shaping the race, Moore enters the campaign as a clear frontrunner in the battle to succeed Tuberville in the U.S. Senate.
