Police in Dallas fatally shot a fugitive early Thursday after a standoff in the parking garage of a children’s hospital, authorities said, later revealing that the suspect had previously worked as part of the security detail for U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

According to the Dallas Police Department, officers were attempting to arrest a man with an active warrant when they tracked him to the parking structure of Children’s Health late Wednesday night.

Police said the suspect, identified by investigators as “Mike King,” drove into the garage and barricaded himself inside a vehicle rather than surrendering to officers. Authorities attempted to bring the situation under control by deploying tear gas to force the man out of the car.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said the situation escalated when the suspect exited the vehicle while holding a firearm.

“He came out of the vehicle; he had a gun. He pointed a gun towards officers. Officers shot and fired,” Comeaux said in comments reported by local media.

Officers with the department’s SWAT medical unit attempted to provide aid to the suspect after the shooting, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the man displayed the firearm but did not fire it, and no officers were injured during the confrontation.

Subsequent reporting by local outlets indicated the man had previously worked as part of Crockett’s private security detail. Photographs from public events appear to show the individual standing near the congresswoman, and a payment receipt dated March 28, 2025, reportedly lists a $340 payment to a person identified as “King, Mike” for security services.

Investigators say the suspect had been wanted on charges related to impersonating law enforcement officers. Authorities allege he drove a vehicle designed to resemble an undercover police car and used license plates that had reportedly been stolen from vehicles parked outside a military recruiting office.

Officials also said “Mike King” was an alias and that the man had used multiple identities while running a business called Off Duty Police Services, an online platform that connected off-duty police officers in North Texas with private security jobs.

Police have not yet publicly released the suspect’s real name, but confirmed he had a prior criminal record.

The office of Rep. Crockett has declined to comment on the reports linking the man to her security detail. Authorities say the investigation into the incident and the suspect’s activities is ongoing.
