The Devil Wears Prada 2 claimed the top spot at the North American box office with a $77 million opening weekend.
The 20th Century Studios release earned $32.5 million on Friday from 4,150 theaters. That figure included $10 million from Thursday previews. The three-day domestic total marked a strong performance for the comedy, which reunited stars Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, and Emily Blunt.
Internationally, the film added $156.6 million from 51 markets, pushing the global debut to $233.6 million. It topped charts in nearly every territory, including number one openings in Japan and strong results in Europe and Latin America, where many countries observed Labor Day.
Directed by David Frankel, the sequel follows Andy as she reunites with her former boss, Miranda amid challenges in the declining magazine industry. Released on May 1, 2026, after premiering in New York on April 20, the PG-13 film runs 1 hour and 59 minutes.
The opening exceeded pre-release projections of $75 million to $80 million domestically and approached $180 million worldwide. It represents the biggest debut for Streep and Blunt, and the fourth-largest of 2026 so far domestically.
In second place, 'Michael' earned $54 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to $183.8 million and global cume to $423.9 million. The weekend box office reached $174 million overall, up 19% from the prior year.
Compared to the 2006 original, which opened to $27.5 million domestically and grossed $125 million stateside ($326.5 million unadjusted worldwide), the sequel shows significant growth. The film, budgeted around $100 million, drew primarily female audiences and benefited from nostalgia for the fashion-world satire.
Studio estimates were released Sunday, with final figures expected Monday.
