The annual “Gay Days” meetup near Walt Disney World has been placed on pause for 2026 after organizers said they were unable to secure key sponsorships and maintain logistical agreements.
In a statement released Sunday, event organizers announced they had made the “difficult decision” to pause GayDays Orlando, which would have marked its 35th anniversary next year.
“Changes to our host hotel agreement, the loss of key sponsorship support, and broader challenges currently impacting LGBTQIA+ events nationwide made it impossible to deliver the experience our community deserves,” organizers said.
They emphasized the move is temporary, describing it as “a pause, not an ending,” and said they hope to return in the future with a “stronger, more sustainable event.”
The multi-day meetup, which began in the 1990s, is not officially sanctioned by Walt Disney World but has historically drawn thousands of attendees each June to the Orlando area. Activities have included group park visits, hotel gatherings, nightlife events, pool parties, and convention-style programming.
Over the years, the event has also generated controversy. Some families and parkgoers have complained that certain behaviors associated with the gathering were not consistent with the family-focused brand Disney promotes. Reported concerns have included public displays of affection, revealing attire in park areas, and adult-themed activities at nearby resorts.
The inability to secure sponsors for 2026 highlights shifting corporate dynamics around Pride-themed events, particularly as companies reassess public engagement strategies amid political and cultural debates.
While the Orlando event is paused, similar gatherings remain scheduled elsewhere, including Gay Days Anaheim at Disneyland Resort later this year.
