Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized just one week after the country music icon died at age 80.

The star, on Hollywood Boulevard, became a gathering place for fans who left flowers, cards, and other tributes after Parton’s death on Aug. 25. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed the star was damaged, with extensive scratches across Parton’s name.

Flowers that had been placed at the memorial were also removed. A fan who visited the site Monday said she discovered the damage shortly before arriving with her daughters to leave additional flowers.

According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the star had already been scheduled for repairs because of existing cracks. The Hollywood Historic Trust moved forward with the restoration after Parton’s death, with crews working Tuesday to replace and repair the damaged star. Officials said the restored star is expected to be polished and ready for fans later this week.

Parton received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1984. Her death last week prompted tributes from fans, entertainers and public officials across the country.

No suspect has been publicly identified in connection with the vandalism.
