Director Denis Villeneuve introduced the first trailer for Dune: Part Three at a packed theater event in Los Angeles, joined by cast members including Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Robert Pattinson.
The film serves as the final installment in Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi series, drawing heavily from the novel Dune Messiah. Actor Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul Atreides, introduced the event via video message, praising Villeneuve’s direction and calling the project a “true act of cinema.”
The footage previews the aftermath of Paul’s rise to power as emperor following his victory over rival factions. The story explores the consequences of that power, including a growing interstellar conflict and internal struggles as Paul attempts to break a cycle of violence while maintaining control.
Villeneuve confirmed the film takes place roughly 17 years after the events of the previous installment and will feature a more intense, action-driven tone. Despite the масштаб shift in scale, he emphasized that the emotional core remains the relationship between Paul and Chani.
New cast additions include Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides and Pattinson as Scytale, a mysterious antagonist whose loyalties remain unclear. Jason Momoa also returns as Duncan Idaho, despite the character’s earlier death, in what Villeneuve described as a key development for the story.
The film is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release on Dec. 18. Villeneuve said the project was designed for large-format viewing, particularly IMAX, as the trilogy reaches its conclusion.
