Los Angeles police arrested a 35-year-old Florida woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she allegedly opened fire on pop star Rihanna's Beverly Hills-area mansion Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. in the Beverly Crest neighborhood when Ivanna Ortiz parked her white Tesla outside the property and fired at least 10 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle, according to LAPD radio dispatch and law enforcement sources. Four rounds struck the house, with one penetrating a wall, while others hit the front gate and an RV in the driveway. No injuries were reported, though Rihanna was home at the time along with rapper A$AP Rocky and their three young children.
Officers responded quickly to reports of gunfire. A police helicopter spotted Ortiz's vehicle fleeing south on Coldwater Canyon Drive and followed it to a Sherman Oaks shopping center parking lot, where she was taken into custody about 30 minutes later. Authorities recovered the assault rifle and seven casings from her car. She was booked on attempted murder charges and held on $10.2 million bail.
LAPD spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan de Vera confirmed no one was hurt in the shooting. Another spokesperson, Armen Arias, noted bullet holes in the gate and RV. The Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating, but officials have not disclosed a motive.
A neighbor described the shock of hearing gunfire in the typically quiet area. "I was a little shocked... We don't hear this kind of thing in this neighborhood," she said. Representatives for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Rihanna shares the colonial-style mansion with her partner and children, including a daughter and two sons. The family has resided there amid Rihanna's business ventures and occasional music teases, though her last album was in 2016.
