Georgia State Representative Eric Bell has filed House Bill 1013, aiming to recognize Lemon Pepper Wings as the official chicken wing flavor of the state. If the bill passes in the House, it would then move to the Senate and, if approved, to Governor Brian Kemp for final signature.
Bell, a longtime supporter of promoting Georgia’s food culture, said the measure celebrates a flavor beloved by residents across the state and highlights the state’s culinary influence. “Lemon Pepper Wings are a Georgia staple, and it’s time we officially recognize them,” Bell noted in a statement.
Critics, however, question the timing and priorities of the legislation, arguing that the state faces more pressing issues such as education funding, infrastructure, and public safety. Some have described the bill as a symbolic gesture that offers little practical benefit to Georgians.
Supporters counter that official designations like this have cultural significance and can boost tourism, state pride, and even small businesses connected to Georgia’s food industry. The bill now awaits debate in the state legislature, with final approval resting in the hands of the governor.
