President Donald Trump’s historic push for Greenland has drawn swift praise from Rep. Mark Alford (R-Mo.), who introduced a resolution, obtained exclusively by the Washington Reporter, commending Trump for establishing permanent United States sovereignty in Greenland.
Alford said Trump’s agreement secures American control over critical military installations, strengthens U.S. Arctic security, and counters growing Russian and Chinese influence in the region. He praised the president for what he called another masterclass in dealmaking on the global stage.
“The historic Greenland accord will deliver a new era of global security in the Arctic,” Alford said. “By securing this deal to deter Russian and Chinese aggression through diplomacy rather than force, this administration is showing that America First does not mean America alone. I am proud to introduce this resolution recognizing the president’s steadfast leadership and extraordinary accomplishment.”
Alford is one of the House’s strongest supporters of the Trump administration’s foreign policy agenda, which has been led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Alford has defended Trump’s cuts to agencies such as the United States Agency for International Development and previously led a resolution praising the administration’s elimination of Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities during Operation Midnight Hammer, first reported by the Washington Reporter.
Alford represents Whiteman Air Force Base, home to the B-2 stealth bomber, the Air Force’s 509th Bomb Wing, and the Air National Guard’s 131st Bomb Wing. Those aircraft played a central role in Operation Midnight Hammer. Building on that record, Alford has turned his attention to the Arctic and the broader Western Hemisphere, where both Russia and China are aggressively expanding their footprints. His resolution states that Greenland “occupies one of the most strategically significant geographic positions in the world.”
Alford argued that previous administrations, including President Joe Biden’s, failed to confront the growing security threats posed by foreign adversaries operating in and around Greenland, leaving the United States and its allies exposed to emerging Arctic risks. The resolution notes that under Trump, the United States reached a long-term strategic framework with Denmark, Greenland, and NATO allies that respects existing political arrangements while guaranteeing exclusive U.S. military control over critical defense installations.
Calling the agreement “one of the most significant advancements in United States Arctic and hemispheric defense policy in modern history,” Alford’s resolution urges Congress to formally honor President Trump for securing permanent U.S. sovereignty and control over key military bases and defense infrastructure in Greenland.
