Fifteen people were injured, one of them seriously, after an Iranian ballistic missile armed with cluster munitions struck central Israel on Sunday.
Magen David Adom medics treated the victims after bomblets from the missile spread over Tel Aviv and surrounding cities including Ramat Gan and Petah Tikva. The most serious injury was to a 53-year-old man who suffered moderate wounds from a blast shockwave. Four others were in moderate condition at Tel Aviv's Sourasky Medical Center-Ichilov Hospital, where seven people from the attack were brought for treatment. The rest sustained light injuries or were treated for shock.
Impacts occurred at multiple sites. In Tel Aviv's Jaffa neighborhood, debris struck a residential building. Near Habima Square, structures were damaged and a vehicle hit. In Petah Tikva, bomblets ignited a fire in a residential zone and left four separate craters, though no injuries were reported there. A fragment also landed on the Ayalon Highway, damaging the road and a stopped vehicle, prompting the closure of two lanes. Damage affected homes, infrastructure and vehicles across the area.
The strike marked Iran's fourth ballistic missile salvo against Israel since midnight, amid six total barrages by early afternoon following an eight-hour lull. The Israeli military identified the weapon as a cluster-type missile that disperses multiple warheads. Air defenses intercepted most incoming threats, maintaining a 92% success rate against projectiles aimed at populated areas.
This attack came one day after Iranian missiles directly hit the southern cities of Dimona and Arad near Israel's main nuclear research center, wounding nearly 200 people, including 11 seriously. At least 36 remained hospitalized from those strikes, 19 of them children. Overall, more than 400 Iranian ballistic missiles have targeted Israel since the war began on February 28, with over two dozen carrying cluster warheads creating more than 100 impact sites. Fifteen Israeli civilians and foreign nationals have been killed by direct Iranian missile hits, and 4,564 people have required hospitalization due to the conflict.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Arad after Saturday's southern strikes and described the limited fatalities as a miracle attributable to shelters. He urged residents to heed Home Front Command instructions, stating, "If you’re in a shelter, you’re protected." Netanyahu condemned Iran for targeting areas near holy sites in Jerusalem and for striking a U.S. base at Diego Garcia. He emphasized that Israeli responses focus on Iran's regime, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leaders and military assets, not civilians.
The IDF reported no systemic issues with its air defense systems after probes into prior penetrations. Separately, Hezbollah rocket fire from Lebanon killed one person in northern Israel on Sunday morning. The conflict, now in its fourth week, has seen Israel conduct airstrikes on Iranian targets, including in Tehran.
