Jamie Ding, a New Jersey resident and contestant on ABC’s long-running quiz show “Jeopardy!,” secured his 20th consecutive victory on the April 9 episode, moving into a tie for seventh place on the program’s all-time wins list.
Ding, who lives in Lawrenceville and works for the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, delivered a dominant performance in Thursday’s game, finishing with $33,027 in winnings. The victory brought his total earnings to $572,600 over the course of his 20-game streak, placing him sixth on the show’s regular-season money list and 14th on the all-time earnings list.
In the latest matchup, Ding faced Alexandra Leith, a national account manager originally from Massachusetts, and Prithish David, a financial advisory consultant from Washington, D.C. Ding secured the win before the Final Jeopardy round, holding a commanding lead with $32,200 compared to his opponents’ scores of $6,600 and $6,000.
The Final Jeopardy clue referenced an 18th-century historical figure who purchased a residence near the Swiss border in 1759. Ding was the only contestant to answer correctly, identifying the figure as Voltaire, and wagered a modest $827 to seal the victory.
Originally from the Detroit area, Ding graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School before attending Princeton University. His success on the show has already earned him a spot in the upcoming Tournament of Champions.
During his run, Ding has also set notable records, including achieving the highest Coryat score in the show’s history with $42,400 on a March 17 episode, surpassing a mark previously held by current host Ken Jennings. He later matched another high Coryat total of $39,200.
His performance has drawn praise from public officials, including New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill and U.S. senators representing the state, who have publicly congratulated him during his streak.
Ding now sits alongside past champions with 20-game winning streaks, trailing only a handful of top contestants led by Ken Jennings, who holds the record with 74 consecutive victories.
