Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she is considering another run for the White House in 2028, offering her clearest indication yet that she may seek a political comeback following her loss in the 2024 election.
Speaking at the National Action Network’s annual convention, Harris responded to chants from the audience encouraging her to run by saying, “I might. I am thinking about it,” while adding that she is evaluating how she can best serve the country and would provide updates in the future.
Harris became the Democratic nominee in 2024 after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race late in the campaign amid mounting political pressure. Her campaign was launched on a compressed timeline, and she ultimately lost the general election to Donald Trump, who returned to the presidency with a November victory.
Her latest comments come as attention begins to shift toward the 2028 election cycle, with several Democratic figures already being discussed as potential candidates. Among those frequently mentioned are California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.
Since leaving office, Harris has remained active in Democratic politics, campaigning for candidates and maintaining a national presence. She has also taken steps that preserve her viability for a future run, including opting not to pursue a 2026 gubernatorial bid in California.
The early positioning highlights ongoing efforts within the Democratic Party to regroup after the 2024 loss and identify leadership heading into the next presidential cycle.
