Comedian and actor Kevin James said Thursday that he deliberately avoids weighing in on political issues, choosing instead to focus on his work in entertainment.
In an interview, James explained that he does not view himself as qualified to offer commentary on political matters and believes there are others better equipped to handle those discussions.
“Politically, for me to speak on it, there are experts who know much more than I do,” he said. “I’m just focusing on what I can do, delivering a fun, heartfelt break from the craziness of the world.”
James added that many Americans carry significant stress in their daily lives and that entertainment can serve an important role in offering relief.
“Everybody carries themselves around all day long with a lot of stress,” he said. “It’s necessary in some ways, but you also need a break. You’ve got to look around and find the good in things. Otherwise, you’re just not going to function. I want to make people have fun, have hope and get a nice escape in their day.”
According to Variety, the longtime performer is widely regarded as apolitical and has consistently avoided partisan debates throughout his career.
James, known for films such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop and his long-running television roles, has built his brand around family-friendly humor. A practicing Christian, he has frequently spoken about faith and values in interviews while steering clear of ideological disputes.
The actor’s remarks come at a time when many entertainers are openly aligning with political causes, a trend James appears content to avoid as he continues focusing on comedy and audience connection.
