Chase Elliott powered past Denny Hamlin on a four-lap dash to the checkered flag to win the Würth 400 presented by LIQUI MOLY at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, securing his second NASCAR Cup Series victory of the 2026 season. The Hendrick Motorsports driver led a race-high 87 laps and beat Hamlin by 0.407 seconds in the 267-lap race, marking his 23rd career Cup win and second at the 1.5-mile Fort Worth track.
Elliott lined up alongside Hamlin on the final restart with four laps remaining after Corey Heim spun to bring out the seventh caution of the day. Alex Bowman gave Elliott a crucial push off Turn 2, allowing the No. 9 Chevrolet to clear Hamlin and pull away in the desert heat. "I wasn’t really sure whether to go top or bottom… Fortunately, Alex gave me a great push," Elliott said post-race. "To say as much as we struggled out here to have won two races here now in the last few years is pretty wild."
The race featured chaos with seven cautions for 40 laps and 23 lead changes among 11 drivers. Carson Hocevar started on pole and led 40 laps, finishing seventh for Spire Motorsports. Erik Jones won Stage 1, while Elliott took Stage 2 in a one-lap shootout.
Several top contenders suffered attrition. Christopher Bell crashed early after clipping Todd Gilliland's spinning car on Lap 68, finishing 38th. Pit road issues sidelined Joey Logano after he slammed into Cole Custer's car under caution. Ty Gibbs wrecked on Lap 101 following contact from Ryan Preece, and Kyle Larson spun into the wall on Lap 160.
Hamlin, who led 21 laps, settled for second and expressed frustration with the restart dynamics. "Just not quite what I needed," Hamlin said. "These mile-and-a-halves have been really good for us." Bowman earned his second straight third-place finish, crediting his team's adjustments.
Tyler Reddick gambled on two tires late and charged to fourth, maintaining his points lead by 109 over Hamlin and 117 over Elliott. Chris Buescher posted the best Ford finish in fifth, followed by Daniel Suárez, Hocevar, William Byron, Bubba Wallace, and Ryan Blaney.
Rookie Connor Zilisch scored his best oval finish in 16th. The victory boosts Elliott's momentum as the regular season continues, with Hendrick Motorsports showing strength on intermediate tracks.
