Nevada Republican Representative Mark Amodei announced Friday that he will retire at the end of his current term, opening a key seat in Nevada and giving Republicans a prime opportunity to recruit and elect a strong America First successor to continue advancing conservative priorities in Congress.

Amodei, 67, is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and has played a significant role in overseeing funding for the Department of Homeland Security. In his announcement, he reflected on his long record of service and deep ties to the state. “Serving the people of Nevada has been the honor of my lifetime. Nobody is prouder of our Nevada Congressional District than me,” Amodei said. “Every achievement worth doing began with listening to Nevadans and fighting for our values.”

He emphasized that his decision was rooted in timing, not disengagement. “I came to Congress to solve problems and to make sure our State and Nation have strong voice in the federal policy and oversight processes,” Amodei said. “After 15 years of service, I believe it is the right time for Nevada and myself to pass the torch.” Amodei added that he intends to finish his term strong and remain fully engaged in his responsibilities.

The retirement comes as immigration enforcement, border security, and DHS funding remain central national issues. Amodei has previously warned that immigration enforcement is “not in a good place right now,”

With Amodei stepping aside, Republicans view the open seat as a chance to nominate a next generation conservative leader who can build on his legacy while bringing renewed energy to Washington. The district is opportunity to put forward a candidate aligned with voters on fiscal responsibility, border security, energy development, and defending constitutional freedoms.
