Democrat Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada sparked controversy this week after posting a profanity-laden message on social media. The post targeted President Donald Trump’s planned attendance at Supreme Court oral arguments in a landmark birthright citizenship case.
In a now-deleted message timestamped 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, Lee wrote, “So fking fked up. I’ll pray they fk him to his face. Sorry, I say fk a lot these days.” Her profile banner on X, however, promotes her as “America’s #1 Most Bipartisan Member of Congress.”
Rather than apologize for her language, Lee later defended the post, claiming it reflected her concern over constitutional violations and the separation of powers. “Clearly, my language touched a nerve; my nerve was touched by the attacks on our Constitution and its separation of powers,” she wrote. “I took an oath to protect and defend it.”
The post drew sharp criticism from both political opponents and conservative commentators. Some administration officials mocked Lee’s professionalism, suggesting personal issues may have contributed to her online conduct. Republican congressional candidate Brandon Herrera of Texas responded on X, writing, “I’m gonna need you to take an oath to stop swearing until you get good at it. Currently, you sound like a 9-year-old trying to impress the older kids.”
Lee’s tirade highlights tensions surrounding Trump’s involvement in ongoing legal challenges, while raising questions about decorum and conduct for sitting members of Congress.
