An Ohio father of two was found dead inside a CVS trash compactor in Shaker Heights, Ohio, after his wife traced his cellphone to the store when he failed to return home from work, authorities said.
Andrew “Andy” Strand, 34, of Brunswick, was working as a contractor at the Shaker Heights CVS on the 1700 block of Chagrin Boulevard when he was discovered Wednesday evening, Cleveland 19 News reported, citing police.
Strand’s wife called police just before 10 p.m. after he did not return home, prompting a search of the store. Shaker Heights Police Commander John Cole said authorities located Strand at the rear of the store inside a trash compactor.
The circumstances surrounding Strand’s death remain under investigation, and the Cuyahoga County medical examiner is determining the cause and manner of death, Cole said.
A mechanic who recently started his own business, Strand was described by friends as “absolutely loving” his work. A GoFundMe fundraiser noted that his sudden death left his family “in disarray.”
“He was a loving, involved father, coaching his son’s hockey and baseball teams. He loved supporting his daughter in dance and gymnastics. His wife and children were the center of his life,” the fundraiser said.
The fundraiser, organized by Danielle Gorbe, a longtime friend of Strand’s family, is collecting donations to support his family and funeral services.
