A Pennsylvania Olive Garden employee has died after suffering fatal burn injuries in what authorities described as a suicide attempt at the restaurant in Williamsport. The incident occurred Friday, Jan. 30, according to Lycoming County fire and emergency officials.

The unidentified man, who worked as a cook, reportedly removed his clothing before jumping headfirst into a deep fryer, emergency responders said. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. A female employee was also injured while attempting to intervene.

State police and Olive Garden officials declined to release additional details, citing respect for the individual and his family. “This incident was a suicide attempt, and out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information,” said Pennsylvania State Trooper Lauren Lesher.

The restaurant was temporarily closed following the incident but has since reopened, according to reports.

The case has prompted renewed discussion online about workplace stress and mental health challenges, though authorities have not released information regarding the man’s personal circumstances.
