President Donald Trump has endorsed Montana talk radio host Aaron Flint in the race for the state’s 1st Congressional District, following Rep. Ryan Zinke’s decision to step down.
Flint entered the contest after Zinke revealed he would not seek reelection, citing the physical toll of multiple surgeries stemming from his years of service as a Navy SEAL. The open seat has drawn immediate attention as Republicans work to preserve their narrow majority in the U.S. House.
In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump praised Flint as a “MAGA Warrior” and highlighted his background as a fifth-generation Montanan and military veteran. Trump noted that Flint, a retired lieutenant colonel, served in Iraq and Afghanistan and received two Bronze Stars for bravery.
Trump said Flint would prioritize farmers and ranchers, economic growth, tax and regulatory cuts, domestic energy production, border security, election integrity, support for veterans, and protection of Second Amendment rights.
Zinke also endorsed Flint, calling him a decorated combat veteran and “the next generation of leadership Montana needs.” He pointed to Flint’s service following the September 11 terrorist attacks and said the state would benefit from his experience.
Additional backing has come from Sen. Tim Sheehy, Rep. Troy Downing, and Gov. Greg Gianforte.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report currently rates the district as “Likely Republican.” More than 30 House Republicans nationwide have announced plans not to seek reelection, increasing pressure on the party to hold open seats in competitive and traditionally conservative districts alike.
