In a Truth Social post Saturday morning, Trump said he would raise the existing 10% worldwide tariff to 15%, effective immediately. He described the Supreme Court’s ruling as flawed but stated that it still allows higher duties within legally permissible limits.
The Supreme Court decision addressed presidential authority under existing trade and emergency powers statutes. Trump said his administration conducted a “thorough, detailed, and complete review” before moving forward with the higher rate.
The president added that over the coming months his administration will determine and implement additional tariff measures consistent with what he called “fully allowed” and “legally tested” levels. He characterized the action as part of his broader effort to strengthen American industry and secure fairer trade terms.
Tariffs remain a central pillar of Trump’s economic strategy, which he says protects American workers, reduces trade deficits, and pressures foreign governments that have taken advantage of the United States. Saturday’s announcement signals continued reliance on trade policy as a key component of his administration’s economic agenda.
