President Donald J. Trump has publicly reaffirmed his confidence in Secretary Kristi Noem, declaring she will remain at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security with his full support. The announcement ends speculation about possible cabinet changes following recent events in Minnesota that drew intense national attention after two separate fatal shootings involving federal immigration agents in that state.
When reporters asked Trump whether he was considering replacing Noem, he replied, “No, I think she is doing a very good job.” Noem, the former South Dakota governor and longtime Trump ally, was appointed shortly after the 2024 election. Her confirmation passed easily in the Senate with strong Republican backing, reflecting her record of strict border policies, including National Guard deployments to the southern border during her governorship, and her outspoken America First approach to immigration, drug trafficking, and national security.
Under Noem’s leadership, DHS has expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, increased deportation flights, tightened asylum rules, and worked closely with states on border infrastructure and migrant processing.
