President Trump is making clear that election integrity is a top priority for his administration. Following the House passage of the SAVE America Act, which requires photo identification and proof of citizenship to vote, Trump urged Republicans to act swiftly to pass the measure in the Senate.

“We cannot let the Democrats get away with NO VOTER I.D. any longer. These are horrible, disingenuous CHEATERS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday. “If it weren’t such a serious matter, it would be considered a TOTAL JOKE! No Voter I.D. is even crazier, and more ridiculous, than men playing in women’s sports, open borders, or transgender for everyone.”

Trump highlighted polling showing overwhelming support for voter ID laws, including 72% of white voters, 69% of Hispanic voters, and 56% of Black voters. He warned that if Congress does not act, he will use legal authority to implement voter ID through an executive order.

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has led the push in the Senate, securing 49 Republican co-sponsors and gaining commitment from Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) to advance the legislation. Lee encouraged Senate Republicans to force debate and make Democrats use the “talking filibuster” rather than the “zombie filibuster.”

Trump also warned that if Democrats regain control of Congress, they could pursue radical changes, including statehood for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, packing the Supreme Court, and eliminating the filibuster. “Our country will never be the same if they allow these demented and evil people to knowingly, and happily, destroy it,” he wrote.

Currently, 36 states require voters to show identification at the polls, while 14 states and Washington, D.C., verify identity using alternative methods such as signature matching, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

With this move, President Trump is making election security a central issue, demonstrating leadership in protecting the integrity of American democracy ahead of the 2026 midterms.
