In a significant milestone for child protection advocates, Protect Kids Colorado has delivered an impressive collection of signatures to qualify three key ballot initiatives for the 2026 election.
This volunteer-driven campaign, powered by thousands of Coloradans across the state, submitted more than 170,000 signatures for Initiative #109 to safeguard girls' sports, over 165,000 for Initiative #110 to ban irreversible sex change surgeries for minors, and more than 170,000 for Initiative #108 to impose life sentences without parole for child sex traffickers.
With a total exceeding 505,000 signatures, this effort highlights widespread community support for measures aimed at protecting children in a traditionally blue state like Colorado.
Initiative #108 addresses the grave issue of child sex trafficking by requiring life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for convicted offenders, aiming to strengthen penalties and deter exploitation.
Initiative #109 seeks to preserve fairness in women's and girls' sports by prohibiting biological males who identify as transgender from participating in female categories, focusing on safety and equal opportunities based on biological differences.
Initiative #110 would ban gender-transition surgeries and other irreversible procedures on minors, with the goal of protecting children from permanent medical interventions during their developmental years.
Each initiative requires at least 124,238 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. Based on the submissions, #108 and #109 will need a validity rate of approximately 73% (assuming 170,000 signatures each), while #110 requires about 75% (based on 165,000 signatures) for certification – rates that organizers believe are achievable given the careful collection methods.
Next steps include verification by the Colorado Secretary of State's office over the coming weeks, involving random sampling and authenticity checks.
If validated, the measures may encounter legal challenges from opponents before potentially appearing on the November 2026 ballot. This achievement signals strong grassroots momentum for prioritizing child welfare.
