Rep. Luna, R-Fla., sent a letter to War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting 46 specific Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) videos. She expressed alarm over the lack of disclosure about objects observed near restricted U.S. airspace, calling it “concerning” for national security.
“The presence of UAPs in and around sensitive military airspaces poses a threat to the security of the armed forces and their readiness,” Luna said.
The requested footage includes encounters captured by fighter jets, drones, and surveillance aircraft over war zones, oceans, and restricted U.S. airspace. Reportedly, some videos show spherical, cigar-shaped, and Tic Tac-like objects near Iran, Syria, U.S. bases, airports, and a 2023 incident over Lake Huron. Multiple objects were tracked moving at high speeds simultaneously, raising concerns about coordinated activity.
Luna chairs the House Federal Secrets Task Force, which investigates UAP sightings, declassifies federal records, and collaborates with whistleblowers. She said the panel has received incomplete responses from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which analyzes such incidents.
Among the requested materials is footage titled “Spherical UAP over AFG in and out of clouds, 11/23/20,” recorded near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border during a reconnaissance mission. Portions of this video were previously released by investigative journalists Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp.
Officials warn that unidentified craft could be conducting surveillance, testing U.S. defenses, or interfering with aircraft, posing risks to pilots and military readiness.
The push for disclosure follows President Donald Trump’s Feb. 19 order to release government files related to UAPs and extraterrestrial phenomena. Hegseth said the War Department is working to comply but has not yet determined how long it will take to review and release all relevant materials.
