U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, where he reiterated that President Donald Trump is committed to a negotiated solution that “ends the bloodshed once and for all” in the Ukraine conflict.

Rubio shared the meeting on X, highlighting ongoing discussions about Ukraine’s security and efforts to deepen defense and economic partnerships. The Secretary of State emphasized that Trump’s top priority is securing a peace process that halts years of fighting and protects lives.

Zelenskyy confirmed that he had also spoken with Trump’s envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, ahead of the planned trilateral meetings with Russia in Geneva. Zelenskyy described those conversations as preparatory and said Kyiv expects the Geneva discussions to be “truly productive.”

The Geneva talks, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday next week, aim to build on previous engagements between Ukrainian, American, and Russian representatives. Both leaders expressed hope that the forthcoming round could move parties closer to a negotiated settlement and that U.S. diplomacy could help facilitate meaningful progress.

Zelenskyy also thanked the United States for its “constructive approach” and consistent support in helping protect Ukrainian lives as the war enters its fourth year.

Rubio said he had also discussed peace efforts with G7 counterparts in Munich, linking Trump’s vision of “peace through strength” with broader diplomatic coordination.

As the Geneva talks approach, U.S. officials and Ukrainian leaders are emphasizing preparation and alignment on shared objectives, signaling that the Trump administration is actively pursuing diplomatic avenues to end one of the most significant conflicts in Europe since World War II.
