Savannah Guthrie called on the public to help locate her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, saying authorities and her family are in what she described as “an hour of desperation” as the case enters its second week.
In a video posted to her Instagram account on Monday, Guthrie said her family believes her 84-year-old mother is still alive and urged anyone with information to come forward. “We believe our mom is still out there,” she said. “We need your help.”
Guthrie opened the video by acknowledging the emotional toll of the search, saying she wanted to share a few thoughts as the family entered “another week of this nightmare.” She thanked supporters for their prayers, saying she believes her mother can somehow feel them.
“I just want to say first of all, thank you so much for all of the prayers and the love that we have felt,” Guthrie said, adding that she believes God is sustaining her mother even in what she described as “this darkest place.”
Guthrie said law enforcement is working around the clock, but emphasized that public assistance remains critical. “She was taken, and we don’t know where, and we need your help,” she said. She asked anyone, regardless of location, to report anything suspicious to authorities, even if it seems insignificant.
“We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,” she said.
Federal authorities confirmed they are investigating two emails connected to the case, including what appears to be a ransom message that set a second deadline for Monday. The first deadline reportedly passed on Thursday at 5 p.m. The ransom demand was made in bitcoin, though officials have released few details. Investigators have not confirmed whether the messages are credible and have not identified any suspects or persons of interest.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1 after what local authorities described as an overnight abduction from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Camron and Annie Guthrie, released another video over the weekend directed at whoever may have taken their mother.
“We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah Guthrie said in that video. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.” She added that the family is willing to pay.
An FBI spokesman said Guthrie was referring to a message sent to Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD. The station said it would not release details about the communication out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation.
Investigators have searched a septic tank in Nancy Guthrie’s backyard, removed a camera from the roof of her home, and towed a dark-colored SUV from her garage. Authorities have also canvassed nearby gas stations to review surveillance footage from the time surrounding her disappearance.
