Savannah Guthrie released a new video Saturday appealing to whoever may be responsible for her mother’s disappearance, saying her family is willing to pay for the 84-year-old’s safe return.
“We received your message and we understand,” Guthrie said in the Instagram video, seated alongside her brother Camron and sister Annie. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.” She added, “This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
Guthrie did not specify which message she was referencing. At least three news outlets have received a possible ransom note, though no law enforcement agency has substantiated its authenticity. NBC News has reviewed a copy of one note.
The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday they are aware of a new message related to the case and are examining it for authenticity. Authorities have not confirmed whether it is connected to earlier unverified communications.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home north of Tucson, Arizona, around noon Sunday after failing to appear at church. She was last seen the previous evening after having dinner at her daughter’s home.
Officials believe she may have been taken during the night, including the possibility of kidnapping or abduction. Federal and state authorities, including the FBI, remain involved in the investigation. Investigators have said no suspect or person of interest has been identified and there is no credible evidence at this time that the incident was targeted.
