The Seattle Seahawks captured Super Bowl LX on Sunday night, defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 thanks to a dominant defensive performance. The victory marks Seattle’s first Lombardi Trophy since 2013 and offers some measure of redemption for the 2014 season, when Malcolm Butler’s goal-line interception ended Seattle’s bid for back-to-back titles.
This Super Bowl was a defensive showcase, with both teams struggling offensively early on. The Seahawks’ defense, ranked No. 1 in the NFL this season, applied constant pressure, forced turnovers, and disrupted the Patriots’ rhythm throughout the game.
Seattle opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal by Jason Myers. The Patriots, led by quarterback Drake Maye, were stymied by the Seahawks’ defense, punting on all five of their first-half drives and gaining just 51 total yards. Maye went 6-of-11 for 48 yards in the first half and was sacked three times, losing 30 yards. Myers added two more field goals for a 9-0 halftime lead.
After the halftime show, the Patriots were still unable to generate offense, punting three more times until a strip-sack by Derick Hall, recovered by Byron Murphy II, set up Seattle’s first touchdown. Quarterback Sam Darnold connected with tight end A.J. Barner for a 16-yard score, breaking the scoring drought and putting Seattle ahead 16-0.
New England briefly answered with a Mack Hollins touchdown reception, but Maye’s struggles continued when a pass was intercepted by Seahawks safety Julian Love. Myers converted the turnover into his fifth field goal, setting a new Super Bowl record for most field goals in a single game.
Seattle sealed the victory late in the fourth quarter when Uchenna Nwosu recovered another Maye fumble and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown. Maye did manage a late touchdown to Rhamondre Stevenson, but it was too late to close the gap. The final score was 29-13.
Running back Kenneth Walker III was named Super Bowl MVP after rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries and adding 26 yards receiving. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba sidelined by injury, Cooper Kupp led the team with six catches for 61 yards. Darnold finished 19-of-38 for 202 yards with a touchdown, while Maye threw two interceptions and was sacked six times.
The Seahawks’ defense proved decisive, containing New England’s rushing attack to just 42 yards combined for Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson and forcing critical turnovers at key moments. Seattle celebrated their No. 1 NFC seed, completing a remarkable 2025 season in the Bay Area.
