Seven Disneyland cast members were transported to local hospitals on Tuesday following a hazardous materials incident reported in a backstage area of the theme park in Anaheim, California, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. near the Star Tours attraction in the Tomorrowland section of the park, the Anaheim Fire Department said. Emergency crews responded after reports of a strong, unidentified odor in the area.
Anaheim police confirmed that several employees, known as “cast members” at Disney parks, were taken to hospitals for evaluation after experiencing symptoms including dizziness and shortness of breath. Other cast members were treated by paramedics at the scene and later released.
According to Disneyland officials, the odor was linked to building materials being used by a contractor working backstage at the resort. A reaction involving those materials reportedly produced the smell that triggered the emergency response.
A spokesperson for the resort said nearby guest areas were temporarily cleared out of an abundance of caution while emergency responders assessed the situation. There were no immediate reports of injuries among park visitors.
Authorities did not immediately provide further details about the specific substance involved or whether any ongoing safety concerns remained after the incident. The affected cast members who were transported to hospitals were taken for evaluation as a precaution.
