The Israel Defense Forces announced that six soldiers were wounded in three separate incidents during operations in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
Two soldiers suffered serious injuries after an anti-tank missile struck their position in the afternoon. In another incident, one soldier was seriously wounded and two others moderately injured when an unmanned aerial vehicle fell adjacent to their force. Separately, one soldier sustained moderate injuries in an operational accident. All six were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and their families have been notified, the IDF stated.
These casualties occurred amid Israel's expanded ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which intensified after the group launched rockets and drones into northern Israel starting March 2. The escalation followed Hezbollah's actions in support of Iran amid regional tensions. Israeli officials report hundreds of Hezbollah fighters killed in the campaign, which aims to create a buffer zone potentially up to the Litani River and halt rocket fire threatening northern Israeli communities.
Four Israeli soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon since the latest phase of fighting began earlier this month. On Sunday, Sergeant Moshe Yitzhak Hacohen Katz, 22, from the Paratroopers Brigade, died in combat, with three others moderately wounded in a separate clash. Earlier clashes wounded nine soldiers, including two officers seriously injured by Hezbollah rocket and anti-tank attacks.
Lebanese health authorities report over 1,000 people killed and thousands wounded in Israeli strikes since the escalation. The United Nations has noted heavy displacement, with more than 1 million affected, and recent attacks on peacekeepers. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered deeper incursions to secure the border and dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure.
The IDF continues targeted raids and airstrikes, emphasizing efforts to minimize civilian harm while neutralizing threats. Hezbollah claims responsibility for several attacks, including ambushes and missile launches, underscoring the volatile front.
