Six inmates escaped late Thursday from the River Bend Detention Center in Lake Providence, East Carroll Parish, Louisiana, prompting an active multi-agency manhunt across the region. The escapees include multiple men facing serious charges such as second-degree murder, with authorities from the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office, state police, and the Louisiana Attorney General’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit now searching for the group.
The East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed the breakout occurred Thursday night, January 29, 2026, at the privately operated River Bend Detention Center. The six men who escaped are:
- Destin Brogan, 22, facing second-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges in East Baton Rouge Parish.
- Krisean Salinas, 21, facing multiple counts across four parishes, including aggravated flight from an officer and theft in St. Mary Parish.
- Kolin Looney, 21, held on a second-degree murder count in Lafayette Parish.
- Kevin Slaughter, 25, facing aggravated assault with a firearm, obstruction of justice, parole violations, and other charges in Rapides Parish; he is the only state Department of Corrections inmate in the group.
- Trenton Taplin, 29, charged with attempted second-degree murder in East Baton Rouge Parish.
- Kopelon Vicknair, 19, held on a second-degree murder count in Lafayette Parish.
Authorities described the escape as a coordinated breach of security, though specifics on how it occurred have not been released.
Sheriff Wydette Williams and other agencies are leading the search, with support from Louisiana State Police, local sheriff’s offices, and the Attorney General’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. AG Liz Murrill stated she has been in contact with Sheriff Williams and Sheriffs’ Association President Kevin Cobb, offering “the full assistance of my office” and actively monitoring the situation.
The escape is the second major breakout in Louisiana in less than a year, following the spring 2025 escape of 10 inmates from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans. That manhunt lasted months and ended in October 2025 with the recapture of the final escapee, Derrick Groves, in Atlanta.
No injuries were reported during the River Bend escape, and the facility remains on lockdown. Officials urged residents in East Carroll, Madison, and surrounding parishes to report any sightings but not to approach the men, stressing that while some face violent charges, the immediate risk level is still being assessed. A manhunt is currently underway to find the six fugitives.
