A deadly road rage incident outside Washington, D.C., on Sunday has left one person dead and three others seriously injured, authorities said. The suspect, Jared Llamado, 32, of McLean, Virginia, was employed by the U.S. Department of State at the time of the alleged attack.
According to the Virginia State Police, officers responded to reports of road rage on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County. Llamado allegedly stabbed four victims during the incident. One victim, 39-year-old Michelle Adams, and a dog were killed. Three additional victims were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
A Virginia State Police trooper confronted Llamado, who was reportedly armed with a knife, and shot him in self-defense. Llamado was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The police stated that the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related.
The State Department confirmed Llamado was a Foreign Service officer, serving as a diplomatic technology officer since September 2024. His role involved managing information technology systems and software applications for diplomatic functions.
Authorities continue to investigate the events leading to the crash and stabbing, and no additional suspects have been reported.
