Texas Christian University defeated Ohio State 66-64 Thursday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. TCU’s win sends the No. 9 seed Horned Frogs to the second round to face the winner of the East Region matchup between No. 1 seed Duke and No. 16 seed Siena.
The game featured back-and-forth action, with neither team establishing a significant lead in the first half. TCU opened the second half with a strong push, pulling ahead by as much as nine points at times. Ohio State rallied late, cutting the deficit to one before TCU secured the victory.
Xavier Edmonds hit a crucial basket with 4.1 seconds remaining to give TCU the lead. Ohio State’s Bruce Thornton attempted a halfcourt shot at the buzzer, but it missed. Micah Robinson and David Punch also played major roles, with Robinson leading all scorers with 18 points and Edmonds adding 16. Punch contributed 16 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks.
Despite ranking No. 233 nationally in 3-point percentage, TCU made nine 3-pointers and shot 39% from distance, outshooting Ohio State, which made six triples on 26% shooting.
