The horror film “The Bride!” opened to disappointing results at the global box office over the weekend, raising concerns that the Warner Bros. production could face significant financial losses.
The movie, written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, earned about $13.6 million worldwide during its opening weekend. Domestically, the film brought in approximately $7.26 million across 3,304 theaters, while international markets contributed another $6.3 million.
Industry analysts had projected the film could earn roughly $40 million globally during its opening frame, but the actual results fell far short of those expectations. With production and marketing costs estimated at around $180 million combined, some projections now suggest the film could lose as much as $90 million during its theatrical run.
“The Bride!” is a horror adaptation inspired by the classic “Bride of Frankenstein” story. The film arrived in theaters following other recent projects connected to the Frankenstein franchise, including Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” which debuted as a Netflix production.
Some entertainment analysts have suggested that period-style horror films often face challenges attracting broad audiences, while others have pointed to competition and shifting audience preferences in the theatrical marketplace.
Despite the slow start, the film will continue its run in theaters as studios watch closely to see whether word-of-mouth or international markets can help improve its box office performance in the coming weeks.
