Three people were killed, and at least six others were injured Thursday after a vehicle crashed into a grocery store in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:11 p.m. at a grocery store located at 1360 South Westwood Boulevard. Fire officials said three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Four additional patients were transported to local hospitals. Two were reported to be in at least serious condition, while two others sustained minor injuries. Two more individuals were evaluated by emergency responders at the scene, but declined transportation for further medical treatment.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident is not being investigated as an intentional act. The driver of the silver sedan involved in the crash was preliminarily identified as an elderly woman, according to police.
Fire officials said the vehicle first struck a bicyclist approximately one block away before continuing forward and crashing into the grocery store. When firefighters arrived, the vehicle had to be moved to allow rescuers access to multiple patients who were trapped.
Video footage from the scene showed the vehicle lodged inside the front entrance of the 99 Ranch Market, a popular grocery store located near the University of California, Los Angeles. The impact caused significant damage to the storefront, with debris scattered near the entrance.
Emergency responders remained on scene for an extended period as investigators worked to document the crash and ensure the safety of the area. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
Police said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing. No additional details about the cause of the incident were immediately available.
