Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will return to competitive golf, marking a surprise comeback as the Masters tournament approaches.
Woods is set to play for his Jupiter Links team in a TGL match, according to ESPN. The appearance comes in the second contest of a best-of-three series against Los Angeles, after Jupiter Links dropped the opening match. The TGL features indoor, simulator-based competition among professional golfers.
The return follows a difficult stretch for Woods, who dealt with multiple injuries and surgeries over the past year. He ruptured his left Achilles tendon in March and later underwent lumbar disk replacement surgery in October, raising ongoing questions about his ability to compete at the highest level.
Woods has not played in a major tournament since the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. While speculation continues about whether he will compete in the Masters, the 50-year-old has remained cautious about his outlook.
“I’ve been working on it. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days,” Woods said, noting that recovery from disk replacement surgery has been challenging.
He acknowledged the physical toll of his career, saying his body no longer recovers the way it once did. Still, Woods has not ruled out a return to Augusta, saying playing in the Masters is “not off the table.”
A biography posted on the Masters website indicates Woods is slated for his 27th appearance in 2026, though uncertainty remains. Some observers caution that competing in a simulated indoor format differs significantly from the physical demands of a major tournament like the Masters.
For now, Woods’ return to action in the TGL will serve as the clearest indication yet of his readiness to compete as one of golf’s most iconic figures weighs another potential run on the sport’s biggest stage.
