A 23-year-old Arlington man was arrested after jumping from a hotel’s second floor onto concrete while attempting to evade police during an undercover prostitution sting, authorities said.
Police identified the man as Fernando Jose Ortiz-Gutierrez, a transgender illegal alien, who had advertised escort services online. Officers from the Irving Police Department Vice Unit arranged to meet Ortiz-Gutierrez at the Red Roof Inn on Airport Freeway. During the encounter, he initially raised his hands but fled when officers approached, ultimately leaping from the second-floor window in a desperate bid to escape.
“Despite his actions, officers were able to safely apprehend him,” police said.
Investigators reported that Ortiz-Gutierrez had negotiated sexual services online, including unprotected acts, with prices ranging from $300 to $400. Authorities said these negotiations are standard undercover procedures to ensure suspects do not know they are dealing with law enforcement.
Ortiz-Gutierrez was charged with prostitution, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, and an outstanding regional warrant. Immigration and Customs Enforcement later placed a detainer after confirming he is an undocumented immigrant; he is now in ICE custody.
No officers or civilians were seriously injured during the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
