President Donald J. Trump has officially endorsed former Major League Baseball All-Star Mark Teixeira to represent Texas’s 21st Congressional District, calling him a “tremendous America First Candidate” and a “TOTAL WINNER” as the open-seat race takes shape to replace Rep. Chip Roy, who is running for Texas attorney general.
In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Teixeira’s record both on and off the field, writing: “Mark Teixeira is a former Major League Baseball STAR, and tremendous America First Candidate, who is running to represent the incredible people of Texas’ 21st Congressional District! I know Mark well, and he is a TOTAL WINNER, on and off the field!”
Teixeira enjoyed a standout 14-year MLB career, earning three Silver Slugger Awards, five Gold Gloves, and two All-Star selections, while driving in more than 1,200 runs and hitting over 400 career home runs. He capped his playing career with a World Series championship as a member of the New York Yankees in 2009, establishing himself as one of the most consistent power hitters and defensive first basemen of his era.
Trump also highlighted Teixeira’s family life and leadership qualities, noting that he has “a great wife, Leigh, and three beautiful children,” and emphasized that Teixeira brings discipline, competitiveness, and a winning mindset to the political arena.
Outlining Teixeira’s priorities in Congress, Trump said the former All-Star would focus on growing the economy, cutting taxes and regulations, promoting MADE IN THE U.S.A., unleashing American energy dominance, strengthening the military and supporting veterans, ensuring law and order, championing school choice, safeguarding elections, and defending the Second Amendment.
“In Congress, he will fight tirelessly to Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Champion School Choice, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote.
The endorsement gives Teixeira significant momentum in the race for TX-21, a reliably conservative district left open by Roy’s bid for statewide office. With Trump’s full backing and Teixeira’s high-profile sports career and America First messaging, Republicans view him as a formidable contender positioned to hold the seat and advance the president’s agenda in Congress.
