President Trump nominated Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez to be the next U.S. ambassador to Brazil on Monday.
The White House included the nomination in a list of ambassadorial appointments sent to the Senate. Perez, a Miami Republican finishing his final term as House speaker, would represent the United States in Brasilia if confirmed.
Perez has served as speaker of the Florida House since 2024. He previously represented a Miami-area district and built a record focused on conservative priorities including tax cuts and education reform.
The nomination continues a pattern of Trump selecting political allies for key diplomatic posts. Brazil remains a major U.S. trading partner in the Western Hemisphere with significant economic and security interests.
Perez would succeed the current ambassador in a role that requires Senate confirmation. No timeline for hearings has been announced.
The announcement came via official White House release late Monday afternoon.
