President Donald Trump has recorded a scripture reading set to be featured in a national Bible-reading event hosted at the Museum of the Bible, according to organizers and the White House.
Trump recorded his segment earlier this week in the Oval Office, reading from the biblical passage 2 Chronicles 7:14, which states: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” The verse is often cited in evangelical circles as a call for repentance and national renewal.
The initiative, titled “America Reads the Bible,” is a weeklong marathon running from Sunday through Saturday, during which participants read scripture continuously from Genesis to Revelation in extended daily sessions.
The event includes a lineup of political and public figures aligned with the administration. Among those participating are Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Sean Duffy, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, along with former Housing Secretary Ben Carson.
Organizer Bunni Pounds said the project had been in development for over a year and was intended to encourage national reflection ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary. She described the effort as an opportunity for public figures to demonstrate humility and faith in a public setting.
The White House also issued a statement supporting the initiative, framing it as a way to recognize the role of scripture in American history and culture. A separate presidential message tied biblical teachings to key moments in the nation’s founding, referencing early historical figures and documents.
Organizers said invitations were extended to members of both parties, though participation has largely come from Republican officials and faith-based figures. The event is expected to feature hundreds of readers over the course of the week.
