U.S. consumer spending on Easter is projected to climb to a record $24.9 billion in 2026, marking a 5.5% increase from last year, according to the National Retail Federation. The forecast surpasses the previous record of $24 billion set in 2023, signaling continued strength in seasonal consumer demand.
On a per-person basis, shoppers are expected to spend an average of $195.59, also a record and up from $192.01 in 2023. The increase reflects steady consumer willingness to spend on holiday traditions even as broader economic uncertainty lingers.
“While economic uncertainty remains on the minds of many, consumers are still focused on holiday celebrations like Easter,” NRF Chief Economist Mark Mathews said.
Candy remains the top category this year, with 92% of consumers planning to purchase sweets. Retailers are also expected to benefit from in-store promotions and seasonal displays, which continue to influence shopping behavior.
The NRF’s outlook is based on a survey of 7,845 adult consumers conducted in partnership with Prosper Insights & Analytics, pointing to resilient consumer activity heading into the spring holiday season.
